From the manufacturer:- 'There is no corn in our Vitamin C. We use ascorbic acid as our base and we grow the vitamin c in a yeast matrix. So the ascorbic acid is the seed – nutritional yeast is the soil (base) and then it is combined with purified water. This is mixed for about six days. At the end of the six days, the water has been completely absorbed and all there is left is powder. We then check for potency of the vitamin c to ensure that the potency will meet label claim. In this process we also check for carbs, proteins, lipids, amino acids, enzymes, and bioflavonoids, which are inherent in the growing process. Lastly, we spray dry the powder to open up any active yeast cells, which makes them inactive and then we check for micro, and yeast and mold to ensure that the product is clean. This process makes what we call Plant-cell. Other companies call them whole food vitamins. The reason this term is used is because at the end of the process you have vitamins and minerals that mimic those that you find in food. In addition, we have done two double blind studies. One for VC and one for Coq10. The VC study proved that the blood had 1.87 more VC then those that consumed the same amount of ascorbic acid. But what was really interesting was that there were very little or no traces of VC in the urine of those that took our plant cells. In the case where they took ascorbic acid, the urine had very large amount of VC, so the conclusion is that much more is absorbed and utilized in the plants than in ascorbic acid. I have found over the last ten years of producing these vitamins and minerals that even the most sensitive of individuals can tolerate them, whereas many people have problems with synthetic (USP and FCC) ingredients.'
